CINEMATECA TRANSATLANTICA

The purpose of this departmantal organization shall be:

1. To present and discuss African, European, American transatlantic film representations,and their signifying practices.

2. To foster the discussion of the globalazing articulation of Black, Hispanic and White experiences,

3. To create an exchange of perspectives about imagin(e)-active social, historical, political, economic and cultural reconstructions and rediscoveries of the transatalntic interactions that Black, Hispanic and White peoples have originated.

4. To promote the relationship between students, between faculty, and between students and faculty.

Course Description
CINEMATECA TRANSATLANTICA is also a course on Film.
This introduction to film appreciation uses both contemporary and classic movies to help students develop critical skills in the analysis and evaluation of film. By suggesting what to look for and how to look for it, the dicussions challenge students to sharpen their powers of observation, establish habits of perceptive watching, and discover complex aspects of film art that will further enhance their enjoyment of watching films. In addition it makes the link from literature to film in chapters on Thematic Elements, Fictional and Dramatic Elements and a unique chapter on Adaptions.
